Dear Friends,
I know many of us feel heartbroken after the election on Tuesday. It’s truly hard to understand why so many of our fellow American’s chose to vote for Donald Trump. We are all processing that outcome and saddened and frustrated with the results. However, I am so proud of all the work we did in Door County, even though we broke our bellwether status. Sadly, we won that battle and lost the war, but the work we did in Door County was amazing. We got more votes for Kamala Harris in 2024 than we did for Joe Biden in 2020. The organization was outstanding as everyone gave their all to this election. Hundreds of our volunteers showed up and worked their hearts out. On behalf of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin, thank you for all you did to get the word out to our neighbors.
While the election is over, our jobs are not. We waged a great campaign and I’m so proud of all the work we did in Door County. Our grassroots organization was witnessed by media around the world and serves as a role model in our country. Together we must continue our fight for democracy. A full range of emotions is understandable, but when the grieving subsides, we must gather together, find our hope and hone our vision for America, no matter who is in the White House. Kristin Lyerly and Renee Paphlam are already organizing for the next election and ready to give their all. We were blessed to have such hard working, intelligent and caring candidates who will continue the fight for democracy.
While we didn’t win the White House and overall lost the US Senate, we must carry on and fight. Our values as Democrats fuel our energy and this fight. None of us is looking forward to 4 more years with the Trump Administration, and this makes our efforts so important. Please remain optimistic in the days ahead and acknowledge our successes. In Door County we had 200 more people vote in 2024 vs. 2020. Our wonderful US Senator Tammy Baldwin will be returning to Washington, DC thanks in part to our efforts. And statewide, the democrats flipped 10 Assembly Districts and flipped 4 targeted state Senate seats. That important victory in the Senate ended the GOP’s supermajority.
As Vice President Kamala Harris stated yesterday, “This is not the time to throw up our hands. This is the time to roll up our sleeves.” We must continue the Harris/ Walz legacy of fighting for the light of Americas promise with every ounce of our collective beings. Our beautiful country is worth the fight. Thanks again for all you did to make our voices heard.
With sincere appreciation!
Together, In Solidarity,
