Feb 2 thru Feb 8 2924. Case #TSM16F16U8SF

Maintenance Log for 2024-02-02

On Fri, Feb 2, I observed the following:

  1. I generated a new DoorDems Newsletter post with the Classic Editor using a customized page template with a standard Post fields (e.g., Post Title, Post Content, etc.), common meta fields and ACF (Advanced Custom Fields).
  2. When seen as fully composed page, the Post Content field included extraneous text (the Post Content of some prior post); It appeared to be a part of the template. I was unable to eliminate it.
  3. I initiated steps recommended by Elimentor Academy article (backup, system info file download, cache purge, setting changes)

Please do these troubleshooting steps:

1. Back up your website

2. Go to Elementor > Settings on your WordPress dashboard.

3. Click the Advanced tab and then switch the CSS print method to Internal embedding.

4. Please go to your WordPress Dashboard > Elementor >Tools > General > Regenerate CSS > click on Regenerate Files

5. Clear all cache: your browser’s cache, other plugins’ cache, server cache (if possible).

6. If the issue persists, deactivate all plugins apart from Elementor and Elementor pro. If this helps, reactivate them one by one to find the culprit.

This is where it pulls its content from:

So if you want to edit the content being shown when adding the Post Content widget, you will need to go to WP Dashboard > Posts > Then click on Edit on the specific posts.

Once you are there, the red box I drew is where you will edit Post Content.

Hello Ely,

1. I must have poorly explained the problem. You recent email does not specifically address it. Were you able to view the video I provided?

2. I can reproduce your screenshot only on a Post that has not yet been edited by Elementor. On any post that edited with Elementor, the Content area looks like attachment 1 when accessed the Classic Editor. Same is true of the WP block editor (which I do not use).

3. My problem is not with editing content but in building a new Single Post template with Theme Builder. The required Post Content widget is immediately populated as soon as it is dragged into the new template. At this point, a Post with content does not even exist that will use the new template.

Does this clarify the situation?

END OF LOG

In the days leading up to Mar 10, I experienced the following:

I constructed a new Home Page having the same appearance as the existing, but built entirely of templates, one for each panel.

THIS IS NOT THE END – THESE ISSUES CONTINUE ON MARCH 14

On Thu, Mar 14 at 5:21 AM [email protected] wrote:

Sorry that I have not replied sooner. I have been busy uncovering and documenting additional issues. I have tried to be thorough.

This may or may not be related to ticket #TSK5GRCOD8WU – see item A.2 below.

A. Our recently rebuilt Home Page (labeled HOME v3.1 beta) now has five (plus header and footer) horizontal panels, each of which consist of a flexbox with a template installed in a Template widget. Some of these templates are made up with one or two internal templates. The header and footer are both sticky. Our Home Page, until now, has not had a Post Content widget. I experience these issues:

1. STACKING: When scrolled, the top panel slides part way behind the header but abruptly the headers is pushed up and out of the window. Following panels then stack up on top of and/or behind each other. None of the panels appear to scroll far enough for any portion to exit the window.

2. LOST COLOR/STYLING: Attempting to edit, the absence of a Post Content widget is noted. Attempting to Edit Template, a new Tab is opened labeled Edit “Single Page #2608”, rather than Edit “HOME PAGE”. In the displayed window, some panels have lost their background color and/or parts of their styling. Styling loss plus the stacking results in the screen filled vertically with no room to add a container. Also, could not put a container between panels. All panels turn green if editing is attempted.

3. PAGE TEMPLATES MODIFIED: In Theme Builder>Single Page, All of the rebuilding now appears in two of the templates, ID = #2609 used for HOME PAGE and ID = #5846 for HOME v3.1. Viewing the two templates in the editor, they displayed the same contents. When viewed directly, the pages appeared the same as the Single Page templates.

WHAT HAVE I DONE WRONG?

B. Next I built another Home page (labeled HOME v3.1.02) which was eventually discarded due to problems I presumed were my own fault and which I did not document. In that process, all the contents were cleared out of template ID = 5846, which I used as the Single Page Template for rebuild no. 3, (labeled HOME v3.1.03) which had (note past tense) the same appearance as v3.1 beta, Page v3.1.03 differs from v3.1 beta in that Divider element were removed from the panel templates and became independent containers separating the panel templates. Because of its vertical height, the Latest News panel was split into two panels with an unlabeled Divider between them. Two buttons were added to the first panel. I also revised Header ID= #3794 to have two sizes of the Site Title to be responsive to small screens (I an not yet satisfied with the revision) In exercising v3.1.03, I experienced the following issues:

1. HOME PAGE CHANGED: the original HOME PAGE its Page Template display all the revised panel templates minus the labeled Dividers. I presume this was as it should be. There is no longer a background color issue. However, the stacking issue is present. I checked out a variety of functions without finding further issues until I clicked on NEXT of the pagination for the EVENT panel – see #2 next.

2. HOME PAGE CONTENTS DISAPPEARED: upon clicking next the contents of the page I was viewing, HOME v.3.1.03, completely disappeared (except for header and footer). I tried to edit the page and found the same. The Single Page Template (#5846) was clear, as it should be. I discovered later that page HOME v3.1 beta was also cleaned out. After making a duplicate, I tested the NEXT button of the Event panel template by itself. The template contents disappeared. All the panel templates appear to be present.

C. A separate issue; depending on cursor position or motion, scroll bars appear with a Pop-up titled ALERT. Scholl bars detract from the impact of the graphic’s motion effects. Can the scroll bars be suppressed or eliminated?

Attached please find:

Five screen shoots.

2. It is not clear who on your end is addressing which issue. Your last message implies I will be contacted by someone other than yourself about the issue of highest priority to us – Stacking. I have received no indication that anyone is addressing it except that someone identified as Ronelyn logged in early yesterday morning.

3. If you are handling the Lost Color/Styling issue. Please note I no long see that issue as mentioned in item B.1 of my email of March 14.

4. I urgently hope that Ronelyn is indeed an Elementor employee because someone has been trying to hack our site. There have been 600 failed log-ins from early morning on March 11 through yesterday when I blocked the offending IP. These attempts all identify user as “unknown” but have Meta data that matches all but one of our 11 presently active user accounts (12 counting Ronelyn). And, of those 11, 8 are in the name of people who don’t even know they are the list much less how to log in. To date, I have never had to deal with such a problem. Any advice you offer will be appreciated.

To the extent you are able, please expedite the Stacking issue. That will allow the site to go back to “Live”, albeit with some flaws. Of course, I am still anxious to properly finish rebuilding the home page with all the intended parts.

I found out why the stacking is going on. all the containers are set to be sticky to the top, so they were all sticking to the top of the page as you scrolled down.

Enmanual, Thank You, Thank You,

1. As I start the rebuild, I attempted to add the missing dividers to HOME PAGE, but could not find a way to insert containers for the divider elements. I also see the Sgl Pg Template (#2609) for the original HOME PAGE is still populated with the panel templates.

2, I next started a new HOME v3.1.04, added it to conditions for Sgl Pg Template (#5846), began editing and discovered the Navigator is populated with several containers, but nothing shows in the editor except the Header and Footer.

3. I made a duplicate of v3.1.04 and retained it for your use.

4. I renamed the duplicate v3.1.05, added it to template #5846 conditions and deleted all the undisplayed containers. I am now adding the dividers and panel templates

On Fri, Mar 15 at 6:40 PM [email protected] cont’d:

5. After deleting the undisplayed containers, I found there is not a way to insert a container between the header and footer.

However, I have done almost no performance testing. I hate to tell you, but the DISAPPEARING CONTENTS problem is still there. View the EVENTS panel, click on the pagination NEXT button. THIS IS NOT THE END – THESE ISSUES CONTINUE ON MARCH 16

On Sat, Mar 16 at 1:03 AM [email protected] wrote:

Hello Enmanuel,

I took the process a little farther this time. Paying closer attention, I discovered that clicking NEXT at the bottom of Event panel results in Page Not Found. Click on the Back arrow returns to View of the template – it was intact. I tried to make a video (which turned out too large to email). In the process, I repeated the above steps several more times and it seemed very consistent. So, I duplicated HOME v3.1.05, with the intention testing the Event panel in its working location.

Next I went to Theme Builder>Sgl Page to revise conditions of #6239, but it was not there. Instead I found a new template #6251, which has the Event template imbedded. The View of v3.1.05 appears entirely correct. Note, the Edit with Elementor drop down indicates Sgl Pg Template #6351.

So, I revised the conditions for #6251 to include v3.1.05’s duplicate, now relabeled v3.1.05D. In the Preview (it is still a draft), styling of the Dividers did not copy (I don’t consider that an issue). I clicked on the Next button – It worked just fine, displaying the next 3 events properly. However, the click on Previous did nothing, except redisplay the 3 next events.

I do not think I took any other steps than I have described above.

On reflection, I think I may have caused embedding the Event template in the Sgl Page Template. At one point in rebuilding, I had a surplus of containers for some Divider elements. I know I got the sequencing wrong at one point. There were some tiny icons showing up in the top of Dividerer containers, but I didn’t pay attention. Maybe I ended up with the Event template not in a container. Does that make sense?

HOME PAGE still has many issues; there are several duplicate panels and the separating Dividers are missing from all the upper panels. I don’t want to change Status to “Coming Soon”. So, I have renamed HOME PAGE to HOME v3.3.01 and put HOME v3.1.05 at the top of the main menu as HOME PAGE.

The new HOME PAGE still has minor issues; PREVIOUS button on EVENT and ACTION panel is not full width. I’ve tried about everything I can think of for ACTION, but I haven’t given up – yet. Do I have to do something so that v3.1.05 is labeled “Front Page” in All Pages? I will to do a Redirect or something at the Host level, but that has to wait for tomorrow.

It’s now well into the wee hours (as my Scottish Father used to say), which helps explain why I am both

Bedraggled and Bewildered,

Hello Enmanuel,

I had a rough weekend. The site is NOT LIVE. You can skip to NEWEST PROBLEM at the bottom.

It wasn’t until I documented my investigation that I discovered the solution to the then latest problem.

With the documentation already typed, I thought it may be of interest to you. So, I am sharing it with you now.

Latest Problem: Elementor Editor DID Not Load — PROBLEM SOLVED, but not until Investigation step #5

 Recent Changes:

– Sgl Page #5846 is now associated with HOME v3.1.05

– in Settings>Reading, changed homepage field to HOME v3.1.05

– in All Pages, changed slug for HOME v3.1.05 to home-page

– in Appearance>Menus>Main Menu, HOME PAGE now points to HOME v3.1.05

– at BlueHost>Hosting>Settings (doordems.org)>Advanced>Redirects>Manage,

changed redirect for doordems.org to http://doordems.org/home-page

Investigation:

1. attempted to Edit with Elementor the selections of the following: popups, my templates, pages

all resulted in a significant pause and then the corner popup re Safe Mode

2. turned on Safe Mode, in Elementor>Settings>Advance found Switch Editor Loader Method already at Enable

3. (I did nothing re .htaccess file – I have no experience with SSH, FTP, etc)

4. in Settings>General, both Site Address and WordPress Address – https://doordems.org

5. Editor still did not load.                          !!!!!!! WHO ADDED THE “s” to http?

6. back – at BlueHost>Hosting>Settings (doordems.org)>Advanced>Redirects>Manage,

changed redirect for doordems.org to https://doordems.org/home-page

– rebooted the computer.

THE EDITOR NOW LOADS!  That lasted about 10 min.

Then I got “Safari Can’t Open the Page” errors with everything.

This was resolved eventually by BlueHost. The problem was related to the change in name of Home Page. No surprise.

NEWEST PROBLEM: Home Page loads without content; only header and footer showing.

HOWEVER, in the Editor, the Navigator shows containers for everything. Interior pages seem to load alright.

I have seen this condition before – sometime during our recent conversations. I don’t recall if it was something you explicitly resolved or it went away for other reasons.

On Tue, Mar 19 at 11:21 AM [email protected] wrote:

The website should be showing content again.

The issue was with the Single page template you were editing, remember changes to this template affect all pages.

And in the responsive setting the main container was set to be hidden. So all the post content was hidden for all pages using this template.

I removed this settings, and all the content become visible again.

I hope that this information has been helpful in resolving the issue.

The website is looking great. Thank you for all your efforts. My time is otherwise committed, so I won’t be able to thoroughly exercise everything today. Hopefully, I can reply by Thursday.

At first glance, I notice a few confusing things that I want to understand better and to investigate further:

  1. Looking at Theme Builder > Single Page, there are 3 page templates that display various lesser templates, where I intended only one page template which is mostly blank and applies, by use of conditions, to several pages that each invoke different templates.
  2. When editing the pages that invoke these three page templates, it appears that lesser templates are invoked by the page template and not by the page itself.
  3. When editing HOME v3.1.05, the styling of Slide Show panel is incorrect and the background color is missing from Latest News panel.
  4. When applying conditions to a page template, I sometimes see choices, offered in the drop-down, of the form “page name 1 > page name 2”, for example:
    • HOME v3.1.05 > HOME v3.1.01
    • ADMIN page > Author’s Guidelines
    • HOME v3.1.05 > News Panel  (but not e.g. HOME v3.1.05 > ACTION panel
      • Perhaps it is a clue that “News Panel” does not appear in the Saved Templates list.

I am not asking You to look into the above, at least not yet.

Hoping you had time to enjoy your weekend,
